With continuous success each season, and Halloween on our minds, it only feels right to pay homage to a shoe that’s got an unparalleled reputation.

The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star ‘70s are the ultimate classic that has quietly dominated our shelves for years here at Number Six. The re-crafted sneaker features contemporary upgrades in keeping with the shoe’s rich heritage, all of which go towards making it an absolute go-to. Traditional craftsmanship techniques have been taken from the original 1970s design, these include a more durable canvas upper, higher rubber foxing, and reinforced sidewall stitching.

Since its introduction in 1917, the iconic silhouette was previously marketed under the name of "Non-Skids" and was composed of a rubber sole and canvas upper. Designed with basketball in mind, 1921 saw Charles "Chuck" Taylor, an American semi-professional basketball player, joining Converse as a humble salesman.

After a year of Taylor's sales work at Converse, the organisation quickly found themselves adopting development ideas to improve the shoe's design by focusing primarily on flexibility and ankle support. The finishing touches were made by adding the instantly recognisable circular All-Star logo patch (featuring Chuck Taylor’s signature) to the inner side to provide ankle protection. It also made it the first officially celebrity-endorsed athletic shoe.

Converse are no strangers to the spotlight, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they’ve made more subtle appearances in Hollywood films than we first expected. We thought we’d take a look back at some of the shoes’ most notorious appearances within the world of horror films.

HALLOWEEN

Mike Myers gives us a seriously villainous mindset in the 2007 Rob Zombie remake of the original 1978 classic. If you look closely, the antagonist is seen sporting his Chuck Taylors right from childhood, through to his more “unstable” later years. We can’t say we support his actions, but if you’re going to wear something on your feet, it might as well be a pair of Black All Star 70s.

FRIDAY THE 13TH (Part V: A New Beginning)

Shavar Ross, better known as his character Reggie, went for a solid combination of function and utility whilst he was on the run from that machete-wielding mass murderer Jason Voorhees. Nothing better to run in.

Continuing our list brings us on to a 2001 classic. After making a horrific discovery in the basement of an old abandoned church, Trish and her brother Darry find themselves the chosen prey of a force that relentlessly pursues them. The more eagle-eyed among us will have already spotted them in their Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars.

We reckon a pair of Converse Chuck Taylor All Star ‘70s are the key to any costume, whether you’re dressing up or copping out. Holiday-appropriate footwear never looked so good.
